The short answer
Percentage pricing costs more the better your season goes; flat pricing costs the same whether you have 20 members or 300. At 100 members paying $600 a season, a 2% platform takes $1,200 — about seven times Clementine's flat annual fee.
The two pricing models
CSA software charges one of two ways. A flat fee — monthly or annual — that covers the farm regardless of size. Or a percentage of sales, usually 2% to 7%, taken from every member payment, often with a monthly minimum so a quiet month still bills. Card processing sits underneath both and is the same everywhere: roughly 2.9% plus 30 cents per charge, set by the card networks and Stripe, not by the software.
Published prices, September 2026
These are the numbers on each vendor's public pricing page, checked on September 3, 2026. Processing fees are excluded because they apply to all of them.
| Tool | Model | Published price | Year-one floor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clementine | Flat | $29/month or $169/year | $169 |
| Local Line | Flat + add-ons | $99–$399/mo; CSA subscriptions add 29 dollars/mo on Core | $1,536 (Core + subscriptions) |
| Barn2Door | Flat + setup fee | $119–$299/mo billed annually; $399–$599 setup | $1,827 (Entrepreneur) |
| CSAware | Percentage | 2% of delivery revenue, $100/mo minimum | $1,200 |
| Farmigo | Percentage | 2% of delivery revenue, $150/mo minimum | $1,800 |
| GrownBy | Freemium + percentage | $0–$95/mo plus 2% per sale | 2% of sales |
| Harvie | Percentage | ~7% of gross sales | Closed December 31, 2024 |
The math at 50 and at 150 members
Take a CSA selling a $600 season share. Fifty members is $30,000 in sales. A 2% platform takes $600 a year; at CSAware's minimum that is $1,200 regardless. Clementine is $169. Local Line Core with the subscriptions add-on is $1,536. One hundred fifty members is $90,000 in sales. The 2% tools take $1,800; Harvie's old 7% would have been $6,300. The flat tools cost exactly what they did at fifty members. Percentage pricing is a bet that the software will grow your CSA enough to justify sharing the growth; flat pricing is a bet that it won't matter.
What to add to the sticker price
- Setup fees. Barn2Door charges $399 to $599 once. Most others charge nothing.
- Add-ons. Local Line's subscriptions feature — the part a CSA runs on — is 29 dollars a month on the Core plan; custom domains, extra price lists, and reports are extra too.
- Minimums. A percentage tool with a $100 or $150 monthly minimum bills you in February whether or not anyone has paid yet.
- Annual-only billing. Barn2Door's monthly figures assume an annual commitment. Check what a month-to-month plan actually costs if you want to leave after one season.
Which model should a small CSA pick
Under roughly $9,000 a season in CSA sales, a percentage tool with no minimum (GrownBy's free tier) can be cheaper than anything flat. Above that, a flat fee wins, and the gap widens every year the CSA grows. For most farms in the 20-to-300-member range that means a flat fee is the safer default, and the question becomes which flat tool has the features you actually use. Clementine's pricing is on the pricing page; the comparisons put it next to each tool above.
Common questions
How much does CSA software cost?
Published prices in September 2026 run from free plus 2% of sales (GrownBy) to $399 a month (Local Line Ultimate). Clementine is $29/month or $169/year flat.
What is a platform percentage?
A cut the software takes from every member payment on top of card processing. CSAware and Farmigo charge 2%; Harvie charged about 7% before it closed.
Is card processing included in the software price?
No. Every tool passes card processing through at roughly 2.9% plus 30 cents per charge. The software fee and the platform percentage are what differ.
Does Clementine charge a percentage?
No. $29/month or $169/year covers unlimited members and boxes; the only other deduction is standard card processing.
