The short answer
Export members, share types, and pickup locations while you still can, pick a replacement by whether you need per-member customization, and migrate in the off-season so members change one thing: where they put their card.
What happened
Harvie, the Pittsburgh-based CSA platform known for letting members customize their share every week, announced in 2024 that it was closing. The software stopped operating on December 31, 2024. Farms that ran on it — several hundred across the U.S. and Canada — needed a new home for their members list, share types, and payments before the 2025 season, and many are still settling in as of 2026.
Export first, decide second
If you still have access to any Harvie export, secure it now: members with emails, share types and prices, pickup locations and days, and outstanding balances or credits. If you don't, rebuild the list from your email records and your payment processor's customer list. Payment cards never transfer between platforms — members will enter a card once on whatever you pick — so the members list is the asset, and a spreadsheet with name, email, share size, and pickup site is enough to migrate anywhere.
The one question that decides the replacement
Did your members rely on customizing their box each week? That was Harvie's signature feature and not every replacement has it. Local Line's Box Builder and GrownBy's custom shares are the closest matches. CSAware supports customization for larger operations. Clementine does not — it runs fixed share sizes — and is the better fit for farms whose members were happy picking a size and a day. Be honest about which group you are in; a farm that migrates its customization-loving members to a fixed-share tool will hear about it.
What each replacement costs
Harvie took about 7% of gross sales. Every replacement is cheaper than that. Local Line starts at $99/month plus a 29-dollar monthly subscriptions add-on; Barn2Door at $119/month billed annually plus a $399 setup fee; CSAware at 2% with a $100/month minimum; GrownBy free plus 2% per sale; Clementine at $169/year flat. Migrating without losing members
- Do it in the off-season. Migrate between the last pickup and the next sign-up window so nobody is mid-subscription.
- Import, don't re-sign. Members should not have to fill out a form again. Their share and pickup day come over in the import; they get one email asking for a card.
- Send one clear email. "We've moved to X. Your share and pickup day are already set. Click here to add a card — takes a minute." Nothing about why Harvie closed; they don't care.
- Charge the first week manually if you must. If a few members haven't added a card by the first pickup, note it on the pack-out list and follow up in person rather than dropping them.
In Clementine I do the import myself from whatever export or spreadsheet you have, and the migration email goes out from the platform with each member's link.
